| Supreme Champion |
The judge, Allan Jackson from Biggar, Lanarkshire, was delighted with the quality of sheep presented in front of him, and awarded the Supreme Champion prize to a two-shear ram, Langlands Jock, owned by Cynthia Aiken and bred by J&S Wilkinson, North Yorkshire. This group 1 genotype ram was Interbreed Champion in Lurgan Show earlier in the year and is a grandson of Tullygarley Elite, the breed’s 34,000gn price record holder. He sold at the sale’s top price of 1,200gns to Gavin Shanks from Lanarkshire.
Reserve Supreme Champion was the group 1 ram lamb Ardstewart Little Tike from the Donegal flock of Wade McCrabbe. The February born lamb is by the Brickrow Jack of All Trades sire and a homebred ewe. His grand sire is Cookstown Hamish, the top priced sheep at the 2004 Premier Sale, and he sold at 900gns to breeders Edward & Shirley Nicholson, Kilkeel. The 6 ram lamb entries from the Ardstewart flock sold to average 543gns.
The Nicholson’s Derryogue flock is also the new home for the Female Champion, a group 2 shearling ewe Fort View Kiss and Tell, from the Banbridge flock of Brendan McQuaid. This ewe’s genetics originate from the first ewe in the Fort View flock, with the sire being Gritter Van De Rozenweide, a Belgian import, and she sold at 480gns.
Reserve Female Champion went to Burnside Krystal, an ARR/ARR shearling ewe from the Glenarm flock of Thomas & Hester Palmer. She is by Just In Time, a Belgian imported ram, and a home bred ewe with Belgian parentage. She was purchased by Matthew Burleigh, Kinawley at 340gns.
Top priced Shearling Ram was from the Dunmore flock of Nigel Bell, Cookstown. Dunmore Key stood first in his class and is by Quarrymount Juggler bred in Co. Offaly, and a ewe from the Omagh flock. This group 3 genotype ram sold at 650gns to Raymond Bowden, Stewartstown.
Aged ewes peaked at 340gns for a two-shear ewe from the Ballygowan flock of Alfie Murray and Son. The 1st placed Ravara Jessy (ARR/ARQ) is by a Belgian sire and a homebred ewe, and was purchased by Fred Coulter, Ahoghill
The Glenarm flock of Hugh O’Neill bred the highest priced ewe lamb at 350gns. Lagyveagh Lollipop, a March born group 3 genotype lamb, stood 3rd in her pre-sale show class and is by the Cannon Belgian ram and an Ardstewart ewe. She was purchased by new breeder, Richard Pollock, from Ballymoney, who snapped up two further ewe lambs from the same flock.
The first prize ewe lamb was from the Boardmills flock of Sam & Peter Clarke. Creevy Lulu, a group 1 February born lamb is by Cookstown Jimbo with grandsire Elbert, the Carlisle 2004 Champion, and out of a homebred ewe. She sold for 300gns to Matthew Burleigh, Kinawley.
