Southolm Flock Dispersal Sale

Beltex breeders from all over the UK converged on Lanark for the Southholm
flock dispersal sale on behalf of Jock Allan, Burghmuir, Biggar, the immediate
past president of the Beltex Society.
The sale topper at 2,400 gns was a three-crop daughter of Ardstewart Charles
out of a Viagrow-sired ewe and was knocked down to Gwion Morgan, Tyn Y Wern,
Ffordd Corwen, Ruthin, North Wales who bought 5 further lots for the new
Beltex flock he intends to run alongside his prizewinning flock of Lleyns.
Included among his purchases was a 2,200gns, three-crop ewe sired by a son
of Viagrow out of Southolm Anneka, and at 1,200gns, Southolm Helena, a Wonderboy
daughter out of a Viagrow-sired dam. Service sire to all three was Tiree
Jiggy Jig, the 2006 Lanark ram sale champion.
Top priced gimmer was a Frits daughter out of Southolm Cathie selling at
1,050gns to John Campbell, Thrunton, Alnwick, Northumberland, who took 4
lots on behalf of his son Edward and nephews Bruce and Andrew, for their
new Roseborough Beltex flock.
The keen demand for the Southolm ewe lambs saw Alan Jackson, Covington Mill,
Thankerton, Biggar bidding to 2,200gns for a daughter of Southolm Jumbo out
of West End highlight. This ewe lamb has an impressive line-up of grandparents
which features The Rustler, Tullygarley Georgia, Wonderboy and Southolm Carla.
Alasdair McLean, Heylipol, Tiree took 5 lots in total, bidding to a top
of 1,050 gns for a daughter of Frits out of Beachy Frazzle. The Southolm
stock ram Frits v/h Groetenhof made 500gns to Northern Ireland breeder Paul
Barnes, Tullyodonnell Rd, Rock, Co Tyrone.
