Saturday 9th December 2006

The Beltex sale of females held at Lanark saw a good clearance of numbers forward and was followed by the dispersal of Jock Allan's Southolm flock.

John Cowan's Brickrow flock from Auchincruive, Ayr provided the day's top trade with a 2,100gns bid from Marshall Farms, Lamberhurst, Kent, for the reserve champion, Brickrow Howfar Tracy. This one-crop ewe was sired by Headlind Ee By Gum out of Brickrow Esprit is in-lamb to Cookstown Hamish.

The same dam featured in another of the day's top prices when Brickrow Jumping Bean, a gimmer sired by a Glebe-bred tup, and carrying lambs to Mustang, the flock's new stock tup, was knocked down at 1,300gns to Anglesey breeder, C Parry, Fron Farm, Beaumaris. The Brickrow pen also produced the top-priced gimmer, Brickrow Jade, selling at 1,700gns to J Hedley, Redmyle Farm, Thorne, Doncaster. This Ee By Gum daughter out of Brickrow Dolly, was scanned in-lamb to Cookstown Hamish. The Brickrow pen also provided the day's top price for a ewe lamb when Aberdeenshire breeder John McLean, Mains of Culsh, New Deer, paid, 700gns for Brickrow Klassic, a daughter of Cookstown Hamish out of Brickrow Hits Only Money.

Brickrow breeding also featured in the top-priced members of the pen consigned by Easter Ross breeder John Scott, Fearn Farm, Tain. The pen topper at 1,200 gns was Fearn Jailbird, a Brickrow High Action-sired gimmer out of Fearn Flirt. Carrying lambs by Horseclose Juggernaut, she was knocked down to North Yorkshire breeder T Hunter, New Town Farm, Hunmanby, Filey.

Heading to South Wales, was Fearn Honor, a one-crop ewe in-lamb to Juggernaut. Sired by Ian's Good Buy out of Brickrow Excelsius, she is full sister to Fearn Honeybee, last year's sale champion, and maternal sister to the 5,200gns Fearn Gladiator. The successful bidder at 1,150gns was Michael Owen, Glantre, Pontsian, Llandysul, whose Beltex X lambs lifted the supreme championship at the 2006 Welsh Winter Fair.
