Lanark Female Sale
10th December 2005

In-lamb gimmers sold to a top of 1,300gns at Beltex Scotland club's show and sale of females at Lanark where the consignments went under the hammer of Beltex breeder and auctioneer Graham Burke.

Donnie Douglas, Braes of Coulmore, North Kessock, Inverness took 1,300gns for a gimmer from his Beechcross pen. Beechcross Holly, is an ARR/ARQ daughter of an imported sire out of a hombred ewe and was sold carrying triplets to Horseclose Juggernaut. She goes to the island of Tiree to join the new Beltex flock owned by 11-year-old Alasdair McLean, Heylipol Farm.

The show was judged by Council member Louise Moorhouse from Exeter who chose as her champion, Fearn Honey Bee, a gimmer consigned by John Scott, Fearn, Tain. This ARR/ARR gimmer is by Ian's Good Buy out of Brickrow Excelsius and is in-lamb to Horseclose Juggernaut. She sold at 1,100gns to John McLean, Mains of Culsh, New Deer, Aberdeenshire for the new Beltex flock he established last year in partnership with his Mum, Jean, with the aim of increasing numbers to 20 ewes. Mary Dunlop's Corstane consignment sold to a top of 1,200 gns for an Eric-sired gimmer out of a homebred ewe. This ARR/ARR gimmer is in-lamb to Viagrow and was knocked down to Ian McMillan, Carse of Clary, Newton Stewart.

The reserve champion, Topflite Jazzy Baby, a ewe lamb from Grant Anderson, Nether Stenries, Dumfries was knocked down at 2,800gns to the partnership of A Gibson, Meikle Westland, New Cumnock, Ayrshire and Northern Ireland breeder Paul Barnes, 28 Tullydonnell Rd, Rock, Dungannon. This well presented, meaty ARR/ARR genotype ewe lamb by Headlind Ee By Gum out of a Lamberhurst-bred ewe, had been unbeaten in her class during the summer shows, and her sale will help finance Grant's planned trip to New Zealand. Her twin sister, Topflite Just For You, made 700gns to the same partnership.

The day's top price of 2,900 gns was a private deal, after Headlind Jalo, a ewe lamb from Alan Jackson, Covington Mill, Thankerton, Biggar had failed to reach her reserve price in the ring. Going the extra mile to secure this member of the Headlind flock's 2005 show team was J Collinge, Whitehill Cottage, Middlebie, Lockerbie.
