Beltex Females Start New Year With a Big Bang at
Chelford!
2012 got off to a flying start last Saturday when the Annual Show and Sale
of Beltex in lamb females attracted a bumper crowd.
The sale got off to a flying start when several runs of senior ewes had
plenty of eager customers. The top price on the day went to the Reserve Champion
a ewe lamb from Bernard Staveley, which made 1100 gns to the Judge, Sarah
Gibbons. This April born lamb, Tewitt Hall Roseanne was sired by Hallcrake
Noah and out of Tewitt Hall New Age, a Mustang sired daughter.
The day’s Champion, a shearling gimmer from Les & Sian Hewitt,
Chester, made 900 gns to Cromwell Livestock, Aldridge, West Midlands. Southern
Acres Patience, a Bishops Nijinsky daughter was sold in lamb to Buckles Newt.
The top priced shearling came from Lanarkshire breeder Alan Jackson’s
Headlind flock. This Viagrow sired shearling made 1000 gns to S & C Davies,
Denbigh, Clwyd.
Leading the senior Beltex ewes was the best of the major reduction from
Somerset based Marshall Farms. Their pen leader was the 2009 born Naomi scanned
in lamb with twins, making 600 gns to K J Weston, Uttoxeter. Most of the
senior Beltex ewes made over 400 gns.
