Beltex ewe lamb tops Carlisle at 4,000gnsAn eight month old ewe lamb topped the Beltex Society Premier Show and Sale at Carlisle on Friday 9th December 2011 selling to 4,000gns.
Buckles Ribena, sired by Newton Leo and bred by K and R Buckle, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, led the sale selling to R W Hudson, Plumtree, Nottinghamshire. Ribena, from the prolific dam Buckles J20 is full sister to numerous four figure shearling rams bred by the Buckles including Buckles Limited Edition and Buckles Nashville Dreams.
Next came the first prize gimmer and overall champion, Broughton Powerpuff Girl Blossom ET, sired by Airyoland Kingsize at 2,200gns. Bred by A and M Dunlop, Biggar, Lanarkshire, she was secured by G C Burke, Edzell, Angus. A bid of 1,900gns won the champion’s full sister Broughton Powerpuff Girl Buttercup ET for G Pyman, Penrith, Cumbria.
Out of the sale ring at 1,500gns was Horseclose Pure and Simple, from J A McGarva, Annan, Dumfriesshire. Sired by Corstane Max and the only female to be sold in lamb to Southern Acres Ptolemy, she was purchased by A Morton, Denny, Stirling.
The 10 month old first prize ewe lamb and reserve overall champion Beachy Rising Star ET by Beachy Noble King ET and bred by J J Barclay, Maybole, Ayrshire was knocked down to I Davidson, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire for 1,400gns.
A mother and daughter both went for 1,300gns. First came the four year old ewe Inveresk Loch Tanna by Van ’t Ophoverveld King Kong from the reduction of Stuart Wood’s Aberdeenshire-based Woodies flock reduction. She was sold to D Owen, Rowen, Conwy. Also making 1,300gns in the Woodies reduction was Loch Tanna’s nine month old ewe lamb Woodies Rosselni ET by Woodies Pheunominal ET, going home with H C Jewitt, Barnard Castle, County Durham.
The same buyers also made a call of 1,250gns for the full maternal aunt of their first purchase, gimmer Inveresk Pork Turku, again by King Kong and bred by G B Shanks, Carluke, Lanarkshire.
Stuart Wood’s reduction continued with ten month old ewe lamb Woodies Right for the Job ET by Glantre Norris going for 1,150gns to R E Wood and Sons, Biggar, Lanarkshire and nine month old Woodies Rising Star, another Norris daughter, to D A Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire for 1,100gns.
