WINTER WARMERS AT CHELFORD BELTEX FEMALE
SALE
The wintery conditions did not deter Beltex breeders from attending the
annual sale of in-lamb females, at Chelford Market on Saturday 9th January
2010.
The organisers, in conjunction with the Auctioneers, decided to proceed with
the sale and their decision was vindicated when breeders and purchasers descended
upon Chelford in some quantity last Saturday, lifting the temperature with
a lively trade throughout.
Only a small number of entered sheep were unable to attend, but buyers managed
to reach Chelford from as far flung places as Inverness in Scotland, North
East Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Scottish Borders, Norfolk/Suffolk, Hampshire,
Devon, West Wales, North Wales and Anglesey, as well as a large number of
breeders and flock masters from throughout the adjoining counties of Derbyshire,
Yorkshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
The show classes were judged by John Hall of Dalston, Carlise, who found
his Champion in an outstanding shearling gimmer, Headlind Mini Mee, from
Allan Jackson, Lanark. By Headlind Lackey, a Phenomenal son, and due early
in February to The Sub, this unfortunately failed to meet its reserve, but
the second placed shearling gimmer, from Denbighshire based breeder David
Williams, a Headlind Genic daughter due in February, made 550 gns to Miss
J Owens, Shobdon, Herefordshire.
The Beltex Reserve Championship was awarded
to the leading Ewe Lamb, from Clapham Lancaster based Bernard Staveley. This
March born twin, by Tewitt Hall Milkshake, a Headlind Ee By Gum son, made
420 gns to M Thackray, Prion, Denbighshire.
