Carlisle Premier In-Lamb Show & Sale
Friday 5th December 2008

The Beltex sheep society annual in lamb show and sale saw a top price of 1,500gns achieved for the overall champion, consigned by regular breeder Gavin Shanks of the Inveresk flock based in Lanarkshire.

Inveresk Loch Carron, a very stylish correct gimmer is a daughter of the noted tremendous breeding imported sire King Kong and out of the 34,000gn Tullygarley Elite sired mother Inveresk Jo. She sold in lamb to the £10,000 Artnagullion Leathal Weapon who at 10 weeks old was Champion at Balmoral show 2007. Carron sold to Ian Wilson of Cunswick Hall, Kendal.

Also reaching the four figure mark at 1,000gns was newcomer to the Beltex sales, Alan Walker of Newbiggin Hill Farm, Hexham. Newbiggin Hill Lily, a February born daughter of Airyolland Hercules and out of a Cookstown Hamish bred mother, sold in lamb to Newhill Minstral and heads south into Wales for Tudor Jenkins of Aberaeron, Ceredigion.

Aberdeenshire breeder Doreen Mair of Turriff sold a February born gimmer for 900gns. Aviemore Lena, sired by Airyolland Klass and out of Tullygarley Donna, is maternal sister to the record breaking 34,000gn Tullygarley Elite. She sold in lamb to the 10,000gn Ardstewart Lord Almightly and goes to Lanarkshire for T Linton of Pettinain.

Also from the Aviemore flock was a gimmer sired by Am Yer Man and bred out of a Wonderboy bred mother. Selling for 800gns she was also purchased by Mr Linton of Lanarkshire.

A pregnancy entry from Kevin and Rachel Buckle of the Buckles flock based at Kirkby Stephen sold for 820gns. The mating included the sire of Newton Leo and the dam of Buckles J Two O who was 1st prize gimmer at the Great Yorkshire Show 2006 and 1st prize ewe at this years Cumberland Show. Signing the cheque was Brian Ryder of Newton Farm Cottage, Moffat.
