Countryside LiveJohn Hall and family from Inglewood Edge, Dalston, Carlisle won the Supreme accolade at the first of the winter primestock shows Countryside Live 2011 at Harrogate.
The impressive pair of Beltex x lambs brought out by John’s daughter Joanne, and Johnny Aiken took the supreme award after winning Best Pair of Lambs by a Continental Sire (combined weight of 71kg to 84kg). The pair won the title of Champion pair of continental lambs before lifting the overall title for the Supreme pair. The judge Phillip Houldey said the pair, "are what I call the perfect pair.They were evenly fleshed throughout with great conformation and the right weight at 75kg - for today's trade." The Hall’s single Beltex x lamb was also awarded the single butchers lamb championship with the reserve going to A M & H V Brown, Bedale.
Taking Reserve Supreme Champion pair and Reserve Champion pair of continental lambs, was another pair of Beltex x lambs from George Cropper and Harry Wood (shown as C W Showteam's Beltex), this was their first time showing at Country Side Live. George Cropper said: "This is the first time we have come here, and we plan to take them on to English Winter Fair." The two friends brought a lamb from each of their farms, to show at the Harrogate event. Exhibitors with Beltex x lambs dominated the butcher lamb classes with a quality show of lambs. Beltex x lambs regularly achieve the top prices in auction marts and when sold deadweight and credit must go to all the exhibitors for providing a shop window for the Beltex breed.
