Agri Expo 2011

Andrew Bishop returned to the Winter Show circuit after a twelve month absence with a greatly admired team of Beltex lambs at Agri Expo 2011, and was awarded the Supreme Championship. Judge Andrew Atkinson from Skipton, Yorkshire awarded the Bishops’ Beltex lambs the continental Championship before selecting them for the Supreme title. The judge said the lambs were an outstanding pair, with tremendous conformation and perfectly finished. Credit must go to all exhibitors for what Andrew Atkinson described as “an exceptional show of Beltex sired lambs” at this prestigious event.

The young farmers class was judged before a large audience and resulted in a popular win for local girls Holly and April Skelton with an excellent pair of Beltex x lambs, the Judge complimented them on their handling skills as this was the first time the girls had shown sheep competitively and they were delighted to win first prize in a large class.

First prizes were also awarded to D R and D C Findlay with a pair of Beltex lambs up to 40 kg and to A M and H V Brown for their pair of Beltex x lambs in the untrimmed continental class.

The strong classes of Beltex sired lambs were greatly admired by a packed crowd around the judging ring at Agri Expo and Beltex breeding was prevalent in many other classes in the female bloodlines .

The judge who purchases prime lambs in auction marts in the North of England commented “abattoirs are now asking for Beltex sired lambs when placing orders with buyers, a lot more Beltex sired lambs are needed to meet demand and the Beltex breed now has a major influence on the sheep industry”
