Irish Beltex Sheep Breeders Club /

Irish Beltex Club 4th Annual Show at Glenarm Castle
Friday 13th July 2007

Friday 13th didn’t deter the Irish Beltex Club from having their 4th Annual Club Show at Glenarm Castle Open Day, and the deluge of rain in the afternoon had held off long enough to enable a very enjoyable show to reach its conclusion. This year the club was honoured to have Lord Antrim from Glenarm Castle to make the presentation of trophies to the prize winners. Judge Tom Aston from Wigan said that his task had been very difficult due to the number of excellent even sheep presented in front of him, and he thanked all the breeders who had brought along their sheep, making his trip very worthwhile.

The committee was also delighted to welcome 8 Belgian visitors from the home of Beltex who had come to Ireland especially to see the very popular show this year – Jose & Marie-Paule Derkenne and Jean & Paulette Devillers from Wallonia; Marc & Arlette Baele and Jan De Lange & Carine De Prez from Flanders.

Club chairman Kevin McCarthy paid tribute to all concerned with organising the event, and especially to the Palmer and O’Neill families for their tremendous work in the days prior to the show, preparing the marquees and show ring to perfection – a task made much more difficult this year due to adverse weather and ground conditions. He also thanked Lord Antrim and his staff at Antrim Estates, Tom Ashton for making the trip from Wigan, and the numerous show sponsors. Thanks also went to the club members who participated in the show, in particular the young people who took part in the new Junior Handlers class – Josh and Philip McCrabbe, Ciaran O’Neill, Keelan McCarthy, David & James Fullerton, Sarah Robinson, Tyrone Murray & Jonathan Scott; and to the McCrabbe family and Nigel O’Hara Jewellers, Portadown, for sponsoring the new cups for this class.

Coming Soon: Irish Beltex Sheep Breeders Club Show & Export Sale in Dungannon Farmers Mart on Saturday 1st September; Club 2nd Show & Sale in Ballymena Farmers Mart on Monday 1st October; Female Export Sale in Pedigree Sales Arena, Moira on Saturday 15th December.
